The Pharmacy department
With a staff of over 110 individuals, we are an integral part of the hospital structure by working together with the multidisciplinary teams to provide core clinical services. Our pharmacy department covers a wide range of areas including: clinical services (including CTC), dispensing services, non-sterile and aseptic production, medicines information (location may change based on ESR) and stores.
In April 2004, we became one of the first ten trusts in the country to be awarded Foundation status. The Trust primarily provides services for 405,000 people living in south-west Essex covering Basildon and Thurrock, together with parts of Brentwood and Castle Point. Basildon Hospital can be reached by multiple transport links and is approximately 35 minutes from central London by train.
The Essex Cardiothoracic Centre (CTC) is also part of the Trust, providing a full range of tertriary cardiothoracic services for the whole county and further afield. The Trust also provides a range of services at Orsett Hospital plus dermatology services across the whole of south Essex.
With a budget of more than £288million, last year the Trust treated 77,500 inpatients and day patients, provided nearly 300,000 outpatient appointments and attended to 103,000 patients in accident and emergency.
The Mid and South Essex Success Regime (ESR) started in September 2015 with a review of the pressures on the local health and care system. The plan is to ensure the highest quality health and care delivered to meet the growing demands of the local populations by tackling gaps in clinical staffing. This will ultimately enable the system to achieve sustainable financial balance.
As a Trust we take pride of our core values of delivering safe, caring and excellent care by working together with our patients, each other and our healthcare partners.
